Massive size, 13” length, with twisted “spoon” point and tapered eye for a large cross beam handle. Forged iron, sized to produce a hole of about ¾” diameter. Viking ships were constructed   hull first with lapstrake construction and the planks conjoined by rivet and rove fasteners. The superstructure was then built within the hull using post and beam construction the same as for buildings. This auger would have drilled the holes for the wood pegs used in assembling house and ship frames. Very rare.
